If Hemingway were alive and living in Red Hook, he'd drink here. Not only is one of the best drinks the absinthe-fused Death in the Afternoon , Venetian-style Botanica has something of a philosophical character that seems to encourage long conversation over some of Brooklyn's most intriguing cocktails.
Gorgeous views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty make this the most attractive place in all of Red Hook. It's a charming little spot by day and a romantic waterfront scene by night. Colorful graffiti murals greet you as you walk into the park, which is perfect for meeting up with friends, having a picnic, or relaxing.
(Don't be surprised if you find yourself standing in line with Michelle Williams or Michael Shannon, both of whom live down the block.)
Im coming to NY in April but im staying in Brooklyn, Im wanting to be near the Barclay Centre when its the RRHOF inducton ceremony. Im wondering now if it would be wise to have a couple of days in NYC itself ,I am only there for 5 nights so will have a lot to pack in from reading some of your blog. would you advise to do this or should I just stay in Brooklyn for the 5 nights and use the public transport to get around.
Thanks for making it easy to post so I can say a big thank you! I grew up in the NY area. I 8767 m returning for a visit after many years away and your article is a rich update and invitation to dive back in. I found my wedding dress in a tiny NY uptown boutique shop I wanted something I might wear someday to a summer party. The seamstress just happened to come from my current city, and brought the dress to me for a fitting when she came to visit her family! NYC magic!
This list is INCREDIBLE! NYC is a long time favourite of mine, and I 8767 m headed back there next weekend! Everyone asks me what my favourite spots are, but like you, I just love to wander and see what I stumble upon! The streets and the people are what make New York! Definitely keeping this list as a reference if we 8767 re looking for something else to check out while we 8767 re there! Thank you : )
I do love Bushwick. I haven 8767 t been to the Wheelhouse but will definitely listen to your suggestion and check it out!
I was in my old neighborhood, Bay Ridge, when I noticed some standout signs along 8rd and 5th Avenues. This one for a bike shop on 5th Avenue and 78rd Street is probably the most unusual one in the neighborhood, where sign standards usually consist of Helvetica on vinyl awnings. 66/68/67
Bushwick (Brooklyn) – While most of downtown Brooklyn has already seen new development and price jumps, a good value can still be had in Bushwick. Williamsburg became hot because is was a short ride on the L to the East Village, and the same logic applies to Bushwick’s close proximity to Williamsburg, which has become the new epicenter of cool. With it’s close proximity to Williamsburg and easy subway connections for commuters, Bushwick is well on its way to being the next big thing.
